Athens: “La forza del destino” back at the Greek National Opera after 27 years

On January 26, 2025, the Greek National Opera will present the eagerly awaited new production of Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece La forza del destino, which will finally return to the stage in Athens after 27 years. The renowned conductor Paolo Carignani will take over the musical direction, while the artistic staging will be in the hands of the internationally acclaimed Greek director Rodula Gaitanou. Further performances will follow on January 29 and February 2, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18, 2025 in the SNFCC's Stavros Niarchos Hall. Dimitri Platanias, Cellia Costea and Marcelo Puente will be singing the leading roles.

New production in Athens: Fanny Ardant stages Rachmaninoff’s Aleko at the Greek National Opera, in a double bill with Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle directed by Themelis Glynatsis

The Greek National Opera presents a double bill of two one-act operas from the turn of the century. Five years after her remarkable success with Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Fanny Ardant is this time directing Rachmaninov's Aleko.  The revival of the extremely successful production of Bluebeard's Castle bears the signature of Themelis Glynatsis. From November 12, the opera double bill will be staged for six performances in the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the GNO at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center under the direction of Fabrizio Ventura. The production will be filmed and broadcast worldwide by Mezzo TV in December, with the support of a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach.
